See how VA Teknik in Helsingborg has implemented a major bypass pumping during the reconstruction of the Kristianstad Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The challenges were many, not least due to the proximity to high groundwater and unforeseen leaks that made it difficult to control the flows. VA Teknik's solutions, which included risk assessment of the amount of water and installing extra pumping capacity, were crucial in overcoming these obstacles.
"VA Teknik has shown great flexibility throughout the project," says Lisa Everbring, VA project manager at Kristianstad Municipality. "Especially when we had our first Friday, VA Teknik showed that they were very solution-oriented. VA Teknik backed up with extra pumps and generators even before the problems were solved, with personal commitment from their manager. If the conditions changed, they always offered a solution."
To ensure continuous operation and be able to quickly fix any problems, VA Teknik installed camera surveillance and alarms for high levels. At the same time, staff were on site 24/7, which gave the municipality the peace of mind that monitoring and operations were always on high alert.
"The worst thing that can happen in a project like this is that the sewers fill up quickly and the water is forced back into the pipes. Then you risk uncontrolled widening, which is something we always have to keep in mind," explains Everbring. This type of disruption could have catastrophic consequences for both households and critical social functions such as hospitals and emergency services. Therefore, it was important to have redundancy in the system with extra backup pumps and careful monitoring
